Renée (KERA Magazine): Thank you so much for meeting with me today, I appreciate your time! Let’s get started. I am curious, as a Fashion Designer, what inspires you to create?
レネ（KERAマガジン）：今日はこうして会う時間を作ってくれてありがとう。さっそく始めましょう。すごく興味があるんですが、ファッションデザイナーとして何かを作ることにあなたはどんなことからインスピレーションを受けていますか？Matt (50% Dangerous): What we already do! We are both very athletic – we want the clothes that we create to move with you, be durable and breathable, also beautiful and striking! All genders are considered when we create our clothes, the androgyny in our designs is on purpose so everyone can wear whatever clothing they want.
マット（50%デンジャラス）：これまでしてきたことさ！僕たちは運動が好き、アスリートなんだよ。だからいっしょに動けて耐久性が高くて通気性に優れていて、その上美しく、びしっと決まっている、そんな服がほしかった。僕たちが服を作るときはすべての性別のことを考えるんだ。僕たちのデザインにおける両性具有的なところは狙いなんだよね。どんなものを欲しがっていても誰でもが着てもらえる服になるでしょ。Renée: You’ve attended Anime Weekend Atlanta for many years and presented your fashion designs on stage the entire time – What keeps you coming back?
レネ：もう何年もAWAに参加していますよね。自分たちのファッションデザインをずっと披露してきていますが、ここに戻ってくる理由は何？

Tina: AWA is very special to us! We actually met at this convention, since we were both modeling in the H.Naoto Fashion show in 2012. There’s a lot of nostalgia and warm feelings for us here.
ティナ：AWAは、私たちにとってとても大事なイベントなの。このコンベンションでふたりは出会ったの。ふたりとも2012年にh.Naotoのファッションショーにモデルとして出演して、その時に意気投合した。だからこのイベントのことを考えるとたくさんのノスタルジーと温かい気持ちがわいてくる。Matt: We really want to show AWA that we support them as they’ve supported us. If it wasn’t for Anime Weekend Atlanta – we would have never met and never would have become designers together. So for that, we are very thankful.
マット：AWAには、僕たちがそうしてもらったように、僕たちも彼らにはできる限りのことをすると知ってほしい。もしAWAがなかったら、僕たちは出会っていなかったし、デザイナーにもならなかったかもしれない。だから、そのことだけでも感謝しているんだ。

Renée: What are your favorite themes to work with? During your Fashion Show held here at AWA this year, I saw a lot of apocalyptic, biker, and bondage details. Can you tell me more about those style choices?
レネ：デザインのテーマには何を持ってくるのが好き？今回のAWAでのショーには黙示録的なもの、バイカー、ホンデージといったものが見て取れたけれど、どんなスタイルを選んでいるかもう少し詳しく教えてくれませんか？

Matt: Conceptualization of our designs is all about what each performer needs and desires. Each outfit is individually based.
マット：僕たちのデザインのコンセプトは、それぞれのパフォーマーが欲し、必要とするものについて行っているものなんだ。それぞれの服には個別のコンセプトがあるということ。

Renée: Can you elaborate on that?
レネ：もう少し詳しく話してもらえるかしら？

Matt: We have created outfits and performance attire for a variety of celebrities and musicians, such as Heavy Grinder, Vic Mignogna, Kazaha, Shola Aurora, cosplay artists, and numerous other talented individuals in the artistic community. Collaborations are very important to us and a core of what we do as designers.
マット：僕たちはこれまでに数々のセレブやミュージシャンに服や舞台衣装を提供してきた。ヘビー・グラインダー、ヴィック・ミニョーニャ、カザハ、ショーラ・オーロラ、コスプレアーティストもいるし、その他にも美術界の才能あるアーティストに服を提供してきている。そんなコラボは僕たちにとってとても大事なもので、デザイナーとしてしていることの核なんだよね。Renée: What are some challenges you face as artists and designers?
レネ：あなた方にとって、アーティストとして、デザイナーとして立ち向かう困難なこととは何ですか？

Tina: Solving problems is something we really enjoy doing. Small steps are exciting and fun. When we started with pastels, it didn’t really work – but we learned to refine it and quickly grow from what we learned.
ティナ：問題を解決すること、私たちはそれを本当に楽しみながらやっている。小さな段階を踏んでいくことがワクワクするし、楽しいの。パステル調でやってみたのだけど、うまくいかなかった。でもそれを改良していく方法を学んで、すぐに学んだものから大きく育て上げていけたわ。

Renée: Why do you create? Has anything almost convinced you to stop creating and designing clothing?
レネ：なぜモノづくりを続けるの？物を作るのをやめなさい、服をデザインするのを止めたらどう、とあなた方に言い聞かせるようなものはなかったの？Matt: Standing out [is why we create] – each outfit is a persona of expression! We stop creating when it gets close to becoming a costume, fashion is not meant to stand out that much.
マット：飛び出してしまうから（それがモノづくりの理由だよ）それぞれの服は表現の役割を持っている！それがコスチュームに近いものになってしまったら、作ることをやめるだろうね。ファッションは、そこまで突出したものでなくてもいいんだ。

Renée: Is designing for 50% Dangerous something you both do full time or is other work on the table for you?
レネ：50％デンジャラスにとってデザインは、フルタイムでやっているもの？それとも何か他の仕事をしながらやっているの？Tina: Well, we do it all ourselves full time. We don’t have an outside sewing studio or anyone else on our team.
ティナ：まあ、全部私たちで、フルタイムでやっているわね。外注できる縫製工場もないし、私たち以外にはチームには誰もいないから。

Matt: I design the clothing and manage our website. Tina sews and manages the business. It’s just us!
マット：僕が服をデザインして、自分たちのウェブサイトを運営しているんだ。ティナが法制をして、ビジネスの面倒を見ている。僕たちだけしかいないんだ。

Renée: Are there any particular design elements that you feel define your brand?
レネ：あなたたちのブランドを定義づけるデザイン上の要素なんて、何か特別にありますか？

Tina: We are working on battening that down. Fashion shows are very versatile and diverse, styles sometimes get mixed up and shown together. Experimenting and playing is half the fun of fashion and really helps to show what designers are capable of.
ティナ：それを補強しようと頑張っているところ。ファッションショーは多目的で、多様なもので、スタイルも時には他と混じってしまったり、一緒に魅せられてしまったりするでしょ。実験的なことや遊びでやることもファッションの楽しみの半分でしかないけれど、デザイナーが何ができるかを見せてはくれるのよ。
