As I was browsing around the exhibit hall at Anime Expo this year, I couldn’t get over just how massive the hall was. Vendors, giant video screens, full-scale art exhibits and more were gathered in the large open space. It was almost as if the room came to life with laughter and lights rather than painstakingly designed, built, and staffed by some extraordinary talent for one purpose – to reach their audience.
今年のAnime Expoの会場をあちらこちら見て回る。会場の大きさにただただ面食らう。大きなオープンスペースがベンダーや巨大なビデオスクリーン、本格的な武術展示物などをすべて飲み込んでいる。ともすると笑い声と照明だけがその会場に活気を与えているかのような錯覚を持ってしまうが、そこにはとんでもない才能を持った人々が苦心の末にデザインし、組み立て、配置したものがたったひとつの目的をもって集まっている－観客にその思いを届けるという目的のため。

Typically, I like to create a pattern that I visit convention vendor halls in – up and down each aisle, careful not to lose track of where you stopped and which direction you were going. This was nearly impossible to do at AnimeExpo. Thankfully, even on their busiest days (Friday and Saturday), I could still move fairly easily and lines were a breeze.
いつもの通り、ベンダーの集まる会場からはじめ、どこを通ったか忘れないように、どちらに曲がったか覚えておくようにしながら探索のパターンを作っていく。でもAnime Expoは広すぎて、どうにもならない。ありがたかったのは、ビジネスデー（金曜日と土曜日）だったので、まだ通路を歩くことも列に並ぶことも、それほど苦にはならなかった。

During one of my distracted moments, I turned around to see the Ficklewish booth, which housed both Bisuko Ezaki and ACDC Rag merchandise, among other indie and international brands. While looking about, one of the staff recognized me from the Bisuko Ezaki meetup the night before and introduced me to Rimma, the designer of ACDCRag. He was so nice, with a great smile and sense of style. After a few minutes of getting acquainted, we decided to do an interview on the spot! I was very happy to have met him and couldn’t pass up the chance to learn more about his inspirations and insight into being a designer for ACDC Rag.
ちょっとポーッとしているときだったんだけど、そこにFicklewishのブースがあって、その中に他の有名無名のブランドに混ざって、ビスコエザキやACDC Ragの商品が置いてあった。それらをじっと見ていると、前日の晩のビスコエザキのミートアップで会った店員さんが私のことを見つけてくれて、その上、ACDC RagのデザイナーRimmaに紹介してくれると言い出した。会ってみるとRimmaは笑顔が素敵でおしゃれで、とてもいい人だった。その日であったばかりだったけど、思い切ってみると、その場でインタビューをしないかということになった。彼に会えてうれしかったし、このチャンスを逃すなんてできないと思った。そこからACDC Ragのデザイナーとしての彼のインスピレーションの元や本質も見抜くコツなどについて話を聞くことができた。

Renée Marie (KERA): Thank you so much for speaking with me today, it is a super great surprise to run into you and get to share your words with the readers of KERA!
レネ：今日はお話しする機会をありがとうございます。こうやって出会えたことやKERAの読者の方々にあなたの言葉を伝えることができるようになって、本当に驚きです。

Rimma (ACDC Rag): Definitely.
Rimma: 全くその通り！

Renée Marie: So, I’m curious, what made you want to become a designer?
レネ：そこでお聞きしますが、デザイナーになりたいと思ったきっかけは？

Rimma: I just really like fashion, have liked it a long time. I create not for me, I create what others want to wear.
Rimma: ファッションが本当に好きで、それもすごく長い間。僕は自分のためにはデザインをしないんだ。他の人が着てみたいと思うものを作っているんだ。

Renée Marie: How do you know what would be popular or most requested?
レネ：人気が出るとか、問い合わせが多いだろうとかそれがなんであるか、どうやったら分かるようになりますか？

Rimma: [My work is] in Harajuku, so I see and experience directly – I can see what is popular or will be.
Rimma: 原宿で働いていると、この目で見て、直接体感することができる－そうすれば何が人気化、これから人気になるか分かるよ。

Renée Marie: What inspiration do you use to make your designs?
レネ：デザインをするときにインスピレーションになっているものは何？

Rimma: I always check Instagram. People who wear fashion are inspirational.
Rimma: インスタグラムはよく見ます。ファッションに身を包んだ人々はみんな、インスピレーションの塊ですよ。

Renée Marie: I love hearing that, as someone who adores fashion it’s great to know our favorite designers pay attention to what we like! Can you tell me where ACDC Rag be purchased?
レネ：それを聞いてとてもうれしい。ファッションに憧れる者として、私たちのお気に入りのデザイナーも、私たちが好きなものに注目してくれていることを知るなんてとてもすばらしい。ところでACDC Ragのものはどこに行ったら買うことができるの？

Renée Marie: Are there any upcoming events for ACDC Rag we should look forward to?
レネ：私たちが楽しみにできるような、ACDC Ragの何か新しいイベントは予定されていないのですか？

Rimma: January 2018 was ALA [Anime Los Angeles], we are here at Anime Expo 2018, and we are certainly open to more in the future. >
Rimma: 2018年1月が、ALA＜アニメ・ロサンゼルス＞。今日はこうして<Anime Expo 2018 ＞にいるし、近い将来、もっと数多くいろいろなことをしたいと思っている。

Renée Marie: So cool! Hope to see you all again very soon in the USA! What would you say is your favorite part of being a designer?
レネ：すごくいい！またすぐにアメリカで会えるのね。デザイナーでいることで一番気に入っていることは何ですか？

Rimma: When people wear my designs and are happy.
Rimma: みんなが僕のデザインを着てくれて、それでみんながハッピーになってくれたとき。
Authors Note: While saying this, Rimma was energetic and had a huge grin on his face. I just wanted to mention this because this ACDC Rag designer is extremely happy to be doing what he loves, and it shows.
注）この答えをしているとき、Rimmaはエネルギーに満ち溢れていて、大きな笑みを顔に浮かべていた。これが言いたかったのは、ACDC Ragのデザイナーは、本当に自分のしていることが好きで、それが思わず顔に出てしまうんだって、そう言いたかったの。

Renée Marie: What are some of your most common themes, do you have any personal favorites?
レネ：あなたの中で最も一般的なテーマは何ですか？個人的なお気に入りってありますか？

Rimma: Lots of colors!
Rimma：たくさんの色を使うこと！

Renée Marie: What else would you like to share with us?
レネ: そのほか何か伝えたいことはありますか？

Rimma: I feel so thankful to our fans for support, and we hope to come back to USA soon.
Rimma: ファンの皆さんにはいつもご支援いただいて、とてもうれしく思っています。またアメリカにすぐに戻ってきますからね。
