Model Diary: Tekko’s Dynamic Celebration of Japanese Fashion and Culture in America (Pittsburgh, USA)

Tekko began its annual celebration of Japanese culture on April 1, 2018, with a night of exhilarating Japanese street fashion. The convention featured different styles all on one runway, from colorful Decora/Menhera to elegant Lolita and subtle Otome; the fashion show brought audiences to their feet and made many hearts stop that evening. Models, guests, and attendees came from all over America and globally as far as Japan and Australia.
2018年4月1日、年に一度日本の文化を称える日、その夜、テッコが用意したのは、気分がスカッとするような日本のストリートファッションを楽しめる機会でした。このコンベンションは、ひとつのランウェイでカラフルなデコラやメンヘラ、そしてエレガントなロリータから繊細な乙女系まで、さまざまな違ったスタイルを取り上げました。その夜のファッションショーは心臓が止まるほどの衝撃で観客の方々を驚かせたはずです。モデルやゲスト、参加者がアメリカ中から、そして日本やオーストラリアなど世界中から集まりました。

The show began with the subtle beauty of Australian Otome brand “Peppermint Fox”, The design duo, Lindzi and Thali, featured beautiful astrological dresses in collaboration with French illustrator Marie Tuonetar, going down the runway like a serene dream. Accompanying the beautiful ensembles were whimsical animal accessories known as tiny companion critters evoking the feeling of a forest fairy tale.
ショーの始まりは、オーストラリアの乙女ブランド「ペパーミント・フォックス」の繊細な美しさで幕を開けます。リンジーとターリのデザイナーデュオは、フランスのイラストレーター、マリー・トゥーネタルとのコラボで美しい星々をあしらったドレスを特集しました。美しいドレスたちが穏やかな夢の中にいるようにランウェイを歩いていきます。そのドレスの御供は気まぐれな動物たちを象ったアクセで、森の中の妖精のお話であるかのような感覚を醸し出しています。

The tone quickly shifted as the runway party got started with “Hard Decora”. This American Decora brand featured vibrant and aggressively cute looks from Chicago designer, Kamilah Jones. Accompanying accessories ranged from brightly spiked baseball bats to detailed mini accessories that dared you to not look!
「ハード・デコラ」のパーティーが始まると、ランウェイの雰囲気が一変します。このアメリカのデコラ系ブランドは、シカゴ出身のデザイナー、カミーラ・ジョーンズが作り出す元気が良くて活発でキュートなルックを作り出しています。ドレスに合わせたアクセは、キラキラ輝くスパイクを打った野球のバットから、見逃すことができるかと挑戦をしかけているようなミニアクセサリーと幅広い。

The party continued with the playful and wildly popular Harajuku brand, Listen Flavor, and their brand ambassador, model Haruka Kurebayashi. Listen Flavor featured fun collaborations with pop culture characters from Danganronpa and Emily Strange in their current collections.
ランウェイのパーティーは、人気の原宿ブランド、リッスン・フレーバーとそのブランドアンバサダーでモデルの紅林大空が現れて、ますます盛り上がります。リッスン・フレーバーは、「ダンガンロンパ」からのポップなキャラクターとエミリー・ストレンジの楽しいコラボを見せてくれました。

The climax of the night was local Pittsburgh brand, Puvithel. The Menhera inspired looks were featured in a unique runway battle with the powerful theme of kawaii versus inner darkness. One of the standout looks was the dark Cheshire Cat coordinate, modeled by American style star Dollfille.
その夜のクライマックスは、地元ピッツバーグのブランド、ピューヴィタル。メンヘラに影響を受けたデザインは、カワイイというコンセプトと内なる暗闇を対立させるという大胆なテーマでランウェイでの戦いを表現していく。目立ったデザインのひとつは、アメリカのスタイルスター、ドールフィルがモデルを務めたダークなチェシャ猫のコーデでした。

The runway ended with a lovely crescendo from elegant Japanese sister brands “BABY, THE STAR SHINE BRIGHT” and “Alice and the Pirates”. The divinely talented designer, Saki Tachibana, showed an array of sophisticated Lolita looks, contrasting light and dark with pops of sweet spring colors. In a later question and answer session, Ms. Tachibana told us how her childhood inspired her to create fairy tale designs. Elegant new looks from the “Ange et Diable” and “Le Ciel Nocturne” collections debuted that night.
ランウェイでのショー、最後を飾ったのは優雅な日本からの姉妹ブランド「BABY, THE STAR SHINE BRIGT」と「Alice and the Pirates」。神のような才能を持つデザイナー、立花早紀さんがデザインした明暗を際立たせ、甘い春の色をポップにあしらった洗練されたロリータの姿を次々と見せてくれました。その後のQ&Aセッションでは、立花さん自ら、子供の頃の経験がおとぎ話に出てくるようなデザインを作り出すことに影響を与えていることを放してくれました。
「Ange et Diable」や「Le Ciel Nocturne」といった優雅で新しいブランドからのコレクションもその夜、初お披露目されました。

This year, Tekko’s impressive fashion program presented different global kawaii brands, showing each continent’s interpretation of Japanese street fashion. Fashion lovers even got the opportunity to purchase these magnificent runway looks at the designer booths afterward. For me, it was amazing to see the unique interpretations of kawaii fashion by attendees as well. Tekko sent a message that weekend: kawaii fashion can be for anyone, anywhere, and is here to stay!
今年のテッコのすばらしいファッション・プログラムは、世界各地から日本のストリートファッションに影響を受けたカワイイブランドを紹介してくれました。ファッション大好きっ子たちは、デザイナーのブースでランウェイに登場したすばらしいデザインのドレスなどを購入するチャンスにも恵まれました。私としては、参加者たちもカワイイファッションをそれぞれのユニークな解釈で着ている姿を見ることができ、ためになりました。テッコもその週末、そんなみんなにメッセージを送りました。いわく、「カワイイファッションは、みんなのものです。どこで着てもいいのです。そしていつまでもここにあり続けるのです！」
